The Department of Dermatology
About Us
The Department of Dermatology offers comprehensive services in treating diseases of skin, hair and nails. It specializes in dermatological diseases of African Americans and other ethnic groups with dark skin.
Specialties include pigmentary disorders such as vitiligo, melasma and disorders of hair in women. Treatments available include UVA and UVB phototherapy and laser hair removal. Cosmetic treatments such as chemical peels, tissue fillers and Botox(TM) are available.

Research
The department is currently involved in research of vitiligo, acne, pseudofolliculitis barbae (shaving bumps) and psoriasis.

The Howard University Department of Dermatology is committed to providing excellent and compassionate patient care while educating future leaders and clinicians in the art and science of Dermatology. Our primary goal is to deliver superior specialized care to patients with diseases of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. Our faculty delivers exceptional patient care, with expertise in complex medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, minor dermatologic surgery, cosmetics, dermatopathology, and laser therapy as well as translational and clinical research.
