Podiatry
Howard University's podiatry program was established at Freedman's Hospital in the late 1950's with Dr. Murial Osbourne as the first section chief. Dr. William Rutherford was the second Section chief which then moved to the Department of Surgery from the Department of Orthopedics. Dr. Rutherford collaborated with Dr. Kirk Geter the current Chief in establishing the direction of the Department. Today, the division offers a wide variety of comprehensive and surgical ser ices to the delight of the community and the Department. The Residency program was established in 2000 and has trained numerous students and residents in the art of medical and surgical care of the foot.
