Student Health Services
Howard University believes in offering stellar care for its student population and is able to provide medical services that cover a wide range of specialties. Students are encouraged to find an approved primary care provider. Students may find a provider with UnitedHealthCare. Typically, students will be assigned to a primary health care provider (PCP) during their first medical visit. The provider may be a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
The Student Health Center also offers health education that promotes Student Wellness and Disease Prevention.
Services By Appointment
Students who wish to be seen by an obstetrician/gynecologist for gynecologic services will be able to receive those services at the University Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates practice at the Howard University Hospital Faculty Practice Plan. There will be dedicated sessions carved out where certain providers will only see Howard University students. Students are welcome to be seen on other days as well. You do not need to have a referral for to see a gynecologist services, but for your convenience, those appointments can still be scheduled through the Student Health Center.
Preventative services (i.e. Pap smears) do not require a co-pay, but other gynecologic issues addressed by the gynecologists will be subject to a $25 co-pay. Note that many gynecologic concerns can be addressed by the primary care providers at the Student Health Center, but preventative services will continue to be done by the gynecologists.
Seen by appointment ONLY. Please call the Student Health Center at least 1 week in advance to schedule an appointment. Any documents required for completion of physicals will be returned to students 1 week after the scheduled physical exam.
- Medical students requiring physicals will need to schedule an appointment for Wednesdays and Friday
- Student athletes requiring physicals should contact Ms. Cleveland, Director of Sports Medicine, to schedule an appointment
Making an Appointment
Appointments can be made for the primary care clinic by calling (202) 806-7540. If you must cancel or reschedule, please give us 24 hours notice; this allows us to move other students who are waiting for appointments into your slot. Students not reporting on time for appointments may be rescheduled for another time.
