Disclaimer and explanation of standard hospital charges

Howard University Hospital determines all standard charges for patients, which a list of charges for the components of patient care and patient services. Standard charges are the baseline rates or starting price of each service performed and goods consumed related with an individual’s care and treatment that will appear on a patient’s final bill. Please be advised that prices are subject to periodic updates based on the fluctuating cost of providing services. Standard charges may not reflect what a patient may pay. Government insurance plans (Medicare and Medicaid) have their own set of pricing rates, which hospitals are obligated to accept. In addition, commercial insurance payments are based on contractual negotiations with managed care payors and may or may not reflect the standard charges. Patients without Government or commercial insurance should discuss charges, alternative pricing and payment terms and/or financial assistance at the time of registration.
