Several members of the department participate in ongoing basic and clinical research. The department has an alliance with the National Institute of Mental Health's intramural program to support collaborative research on 25 different projects. These are pioneering studies that involve mood and anxiety disorders, medication effectiveness and treatment, state-of-the-art neuro-imaging and measures of physiological response. Individual faculty members are also funded in studies of the genetics of mood disorders, sleep in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and studies of the pharmacology of alcohol dependence. These projects attempt as much as possible to complement clinical services.
