Program Overview

Howard University Hospital serves as the principal teaching hospital for the Howard University Hospital Ophthalmology Residency Program that has been accredited since 1946.  The Department of Ophthalmology provides expertise in all of the clinical sub-specialties of ophthalmology.

The residency offers a wide range of clinical experience and provides a strong background for residents entering comprehensive ophthalmology practice and for those pursuing sub-specialty ophthalmic training.  Presently, medical students, emergency room, neurology, pediatric, family practice and general medicine residents attend sub-specialty lectures and/or rotate on our service monthly.  This program does not sponsor a transitional 1year (PGY1).

We encourage matched ophthalmology residency to matriculate in Howard University Hospital's diverse post-graduate year one programs and to have some computer acumen.
