The Department of Neurology strives for excellence in the fields of education, service and research. As the only neurology residency training program in an institution dedicated to the training of minorities, it takes its role in promoting the understanding of neurological disorders that primarily affect the African-American population and minorities seriously.
It plays a major role in stimulating the interest of students in the neurosciences, where minorities in research and leadership roles, are seriously lacking. It strives to bridge the gap in specialized care given to minority population by training compassionate, caring and culturally sensitive neurologists servicing all populations.
All clinical faculty supervise resident research and are involved in areas of clinical research, some funded and some unfunded.
